Rod Major

Rod Major was born 1948 in Crewe, Cheshire, he has lived in Hythe, Kent since 1986.

Painting in oils has been a keen hobby while working a lifetime in banking. Since retiring in 2012, he has pursued his passion with renewed vigour. Rod Major is a self taught plein air painter who paints impressionistically, capturing atmosphere and light in a spontaneous way. He paints in oils, always outdoors in front of the subject. Rod finishes his paintings in one session, working wet on wet and rarely touches them afterwards. He never paints from photographs.

The subjects he takes inspiration from are mostly landscapes, boats and harbours. He also loves painting the Thames in London and travelling overseas on painting holidays. In 2018 he enjoyed successful painting trips to Nice, France and Venice.
